It happens to all of us at some point. You’re optimistic, energetic, and ready to do great things. Then, seemingly from out of nowhere… BLAM – rejection.
It could come in many forms:
· It’s not you it’s me…
· [Vaguely nice comment], but…
· I just don’t think you can help me…
The words may differ, but they all feel the same to you. Your self-worth takes a mighty hit. Your confidence plummets. You may experience imaginary pain such as:
· Stinging (from being ‘slapped in the face’)
· Throbbing (from being ‘kicked in the pants’)
· Sharp aching (from being ‘stabbed in the back’)
At times like this it’s easy to get angry and burn with a sense of vengeance. Just take a deep breath and remember this:
Never attitude to malice that which can be adequately explained by ignorance
Don’t assume that the person(s) who rejected you have a vendetta against you. It’s much for likely that they don’t realize the hurt they are causing than it is something personal. Until you have evidence to the contrary, they probably don’t know any better. So don’t give up. Don’t give in (to anger and self-pity). You will live to fight (drive change/do wonders/save the world) another day.
