Friday
3:30 AM – Awake to pack the minivan, load the family, and head off on an adventure.
On the road again
We were on our way to Northern California.
Going to California
7:30 PM – We arrive that evening to our hotel. Exhausted, we went to sleep.
Saturday
5:30 AM – Awake to eat breakfast and get ready for a Memorial Service. The service was for Jesse Pittman, a Navy Seal. His helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.
Made it to Arlington
7:00PM – Thank you Ukiah Elks for your hospitality at your BBQ that evening.
Sunday
3:30 AM – Wake up at 3:30 to drive over hills and rivers to get back home.
Over the hills and far away
In Southern Oregon I noticed a sign for Rogue Community College. Do you think they’d give me an honorary degree?
7:30PM – We decide to go to the Chinese Buffet to round out the busy weekend.
So there was over 24 hours driving with three kids in the van, little sleep on hard hotel beds, running on ‘E’ with no gas stations in sight and for what? For the chance to honor the memory of a hero and acknowledge that the challenges in my life are insignificant to 5 minutes of being a Navy Seal.
RIP Jesse Pittman
